Glen Garioch Sherry Cask Matured, Aged 15 Years

Color: a rich, deep amber, consistent with a mature sherry casked whisky.

Nose: dried fruit, soft cinnamon, maple syrup and orange peel. It smells like breakfast. An incredible lack of ethanol given the 53.7% ABV.

Palate: raisins, dates and figs with a bit of spice, more cinnamon than clove. Glen Garioch is known for pelting its malt and the peat sneaks into the palate very gently, almost as an afterthought; the Olorosso sherry casking is the strongest influence in this whisky by far. A person who doesn’t like peated whisky probably will not even sense any peat here, it is that subtle.

Finish: the dry sherried oak and sweet dried fruit lingers gently on the tongue for a remarkably long time.

There is no burn whatsoever to this cask strength whisky. I would normally think of adding some water to a whisky over 50% ABV. Not this one! I would be shocked if this is not matured in first fill casks.

Remarkably smooth, rich and full-bodied, this whisky is fantastic. Glen Garioch is decidedly
under appreciated in the US, where it is oft hard to find. If you see this expression of Glen Garioch, just buy it. It is that good.

Slainte!
